This is for every Actor that wants to write their own original content and film it but stumbles along the way. Brett Newton’s formula for writing scenes and his agility for producing is proven. Brett started LA REELS 7 years ago and with over 3000 original scenes written, filmed and delivered, Brett will share the writing process he uses and then film them with you. At the end of each 2 week session you will walk away with an original writing piece that is professionally produced for your own original reel and Actor/Writer’s toolkit.
DAY 1: “Writing Session” | 2 Person Scenes vs Telephone Scenes (4 Hours)
No matter if there is someone in the scene with you, or on the other end of the telephone, listening is one of the most important parts of acting. During introductions, we will listen to the needs and ideas of everyone participating. Everyone will then have the option to partner up and write a 2 Person Scene or work individually to create a Telephone Scene. We will explore writing a conversation in both circumstance and putting all the nuances together to create a fully lived in environment. We will go over examples of both Telephone Scenes and 2 Person Scenes and break down the GENRE(s), CHARACTER(s), and SCENARIO(s). We will then start the writing process and everyone will write their own or together with their partner. Telephone Scenes will be 1/3 page TV/Script Format (45-60secs on film) and 2 Person Scenes will be 1-1.5 pages TV/Script Format (60-90secs on film). *All final scripts will be reviewed/prepared/confirmed & formatted by Brett Newton.
Day 2: “Filming Session” | (1-2 hours/Scene)
Over the week everyone will prepare their scenes, lock scripts, learn dialogue, and create their characters’ circumstances. The 2nd day of class will have each actor(s) shooting their scene. Over the week everyone will prepare their scenes and be responsible for their own rehearsals outside of class. A CALL SHEET will go out 24-48 hours before the shoot for individual shoot times and locations. Classmates are welcome to come and be on set for each other’s scenes, but we will be moving quickly (Just like on set). Everyone should come 100% memorized and prepared with wardrobe options and Hair/Makeup ready.
POST PRODUCTION & DELIVERY
High Definition Picture & Sound
Full Editing Services: Logging, Sound Sync, Editing
Mastering: Color Correction, Audio & Dialogue Cleaning, Music Arrangement
All Final Scenes are delivered digitally in High Definition (HD) & Standard Definition (SD) for your personal use and acting profile websites.
Final Products will be delivered 10-14 business days after the shoot.

Brett Newton - LA REELS | Filmmaker | Actor
BRETT NEWTON started his journey in the Arts when he was 8 years old at Centenary Stage Company community theatre in NJ. He grew up doing musical theatre & tap dancing his heart out. At the age of 11 he was diagnosed with Leukemia, & with the support of his family turned that situation into a great experience. Over the next 5 years of his life he was able to work directly with the Paul Newman & The Hole In the Wall Gang Camp and help raise over $1 million. He Acted and tapped danced on stage with Chita Rivera, Nathan Lane, Julia Roberts and even gave a forgetful Paul Newman his line once.
Brett is now a professional Filmmaker & Actor who understands both sides of the camera. He is the owner of the Los Angeles based production company LA REELS and the Atlanta based company Newton Entertainment Inc.
With over 15 years of TV & Film experience Brett’s body of work continues to grow, from Directing The Members, his first televised multi-cam political drama, producing worldwide 3D Animated shorts, & launching the sexy, action feature film Scramble! Brett has produced & directed over 3000 original demo reel scenes and award winning shorts.
His portfolio includes producing 50+ hours of original narrative content as well as multiple VR 360 Video Series and Commercials! Because Brett is also an ACTOR he understands how an Actor’s mind works! He understands an Actor’s needs and wants, as well as getting them to empower themselves to show their true essence on screen.
